Lake Fausse Point State Park Hosts 2008 Camp RYLA

2008 Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) is over and it was another huge success for District 6200. The camp was once again held at Lake Fausse Pointe State Park. What a wonderful place to hold a leadership camp. From beautiful scenery to an active Park Ranger who once again thrilled campers with his knowledge and some of his friendly kritters (snakes). Campers enjoy a vast amount of physical activities as well as various mental Leadership development activities.

All 49 of District 6200’s clubs can nominate and sponsor candidates to Camp RYLA. Campers CAN be children or grandchildren of a ROTARIAN. If you take the time to visit a RYLA camp you will quickly realize you want to make sure your child participates!

Richard Louviere of the Rotary Club of Lake Charles serves as the RYLA District Chair. He works so hard to make sure that these camps are successful. We need to find a way to help him out by Leading The Way and volunteering at next year’s camp.

Several Rotary Clubs rose to the task and provided campers with delicious meals. The Rotary Clubs of Lafayette and Lafayette South, New Iberia, Patterson, Abbeville, Welsh, Crowley, Jennings, Sulphur, Morgan City and Franklin all are due a big THANK YOU for their effort.

The camp could not run were it not for the efforts of the many counselors who gave of their time to provide leadership and supervision of the campers. Many Rotary thanks go out to IPDG Charles Spencer, Camp Director Richard Louviere, camp counselors and the many District 6200 Rotary Clubs who helped make Camp RYLA 2008 a huge success.

If you are interested in serving as a counselor for the 2009 Camp RYLA, please contact RYLA Chairman, Richard Louviere at rjlouv@bellsouth.net or 337-477-9838. RYLA is scheduled to return to Lake Fausse Point on June 4- June 7, 2009. YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS IT!
