February – the month in 1905 of Rotary’s first meeting – is appropriately designated as World Understanding Month. Rotary promotes world understanding in so many ways. Ambassadorial Scholarship interviews, a Group Study Exchange Team visit from Istanbul, a Rotary Friendship Exchange Team visit from Nova Scotia – these are all happening in District 6200 soon. Other ready examples are PolioPlus, TRF Matching Grants, Youth Exchange, International Conventions – see why our great organization is known as Rotary International! Let’s celebrate this emphasis in our clubs this month. We certainly celebrated at the recent “Krewe of Rotary” Foundation Gala. What a wonderful evening! TRF Chair Bob Scott and his wife Ann said they had a memorable visit. Many thanks to everyone – especially Gala Chair PDG Richard Dunn and Krewe Captain PDG Lance Linscombe – who made it such fun. Read all about it, and see some great photos, in this issue’s Feature Presentation. An upcoming opportunity for more great fun together as the Family of Rotary is the District Conference in early May in Baton Rouge. As you will read, a huge discount on the registration fee is being offered for a short while. Take advantage of it while there’s still time! A different type of opportunity is a photo contest that RI is holding for illustrations of Service Above Self. We should have a District full of winners. Get details on the home page at www.rotary.org and make sure entries are in by the March 1 deadline. Another opportunity is RI’s Significant Achievement Award for outstanding club service projects. Please contact me immediately if you have one to be nominated – RI must receive our District’s nomination by March 15. This month’s Newsletter is chock full of interesting information and photos about many great topics, including EarlyAct, YouthAct and Interact Clubs; literacy projects ongoing throughout the District; our District Family of Rotary Committee goals; bulletproof vests in Westlake; and much more.
