Governor's Update

The Presidential Citation is the gold standard for a well-balanced Rotary Club.  Earning it shows that key attention is being given to each of the 4 Avenues of Service and other factors vital to growing and maintaining a healthy program.  A whopping 80% of our clubs have qualified to receive this prestigious award, which will be presented at the District Conference by RI President’s Representative Johnny Robertson.

Many other club awards will also be presented at the District Conference, along with outstanding golf, entertaining programs, fun events and great socializing.  A list of the “Top 10 Reasons to Attend” is included in this issue, along with an article highlighting the exciting activities available for spouses, children and guests.

The District Conference will also include voting on the Nominating Committee’s proposal of Clarence Prudhomme of the Rotary Club of Welsh to serve as our 2010-11 District Governor.  We will further be selecting our representatives to attend the next RI Council on Legislation and to serve on the committee to choose our next RI Director and approving next year’s budget.  Your club’s vote is essential on these important matters!

April is an active month.  Our District Interact clubs recently held their own Interact Convention, as you’ll read in the Family of Rotary article.  Tales of our visiting GSE Team’s arrival from Turkey will also interest you.  The Rotary Friendship Exchange Team is arriving soon from Novia Scotia for 2 weeks of southern hospitality.  A RI-CAS Workshop is being offered on May 10 in response to many requests, so take advantage of it.  And select your club’s Camp RYLA students now!

Nikki and I look forward to seeing you
soon in Baton Rouge at the District Conference.  Come hungry and ready to enjoy the great fellowship of Rotary.  This issue of the Newsletter tells much about our Family of Rotary.  Read on!

  Yours in Rotary,
  Charles L. Spencer
  District Governor, 2007-2008
