Letter To Presidents
The Group Study Exchange (GSE) program of the Rotary Foundation is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women between the ages of 25 and 40 and in the early years of their professional lives. The Program provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits between paired areas in different countries. For four weeks, team members experience the host country's institutions and ways of life, observe their own vocations as practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas.
It's that time of year when the GSE subcommittee holds the selection process for team leader and team members of the 2003-2004 Rotary year GSE team to District 1950 in Germany. Enclosed you will find team leader and team member applications, application requirements and expectations and responsibilities of the team members. If you need additional applications or information on the GSE program please go to the Rotary Website at www.rotary.org or to the District 6200 website www.rotary6200.org . The download center for Rotary Foundation will have all the documents and information you need on the GSE program.
The selection date for the team leader is Saturday, September 13, 2003 and the deadline to receive the completed application is Monday, September 08, 2003.
The selection date for the team members is Saturday, October 18th, 2003 and the deadline to receive the completed application is Friday, October 10, 2003.
Soon you will receive a GSE information packet to announce the application process to choose the GSE team leader and team member for our exchange with District 1950 in Germany. To coincide with that effort we need to start the planning process and development of the itinerary for the GSE visit from the District 1950 team from Brazil. I will outline the information on the GSE District 6200 committee members, the GSE area coordinators, the schedule of time the team will be in our district, the procedures, requirements and time frame we need to complete this process.
Enclosed:
I. List of GSE Committee Members
II. GSE Area Coordinators/List of Clubs assigned to each coordinator
III. 4 week schedule outline of District 1950 GSE team visit to Dist. 6200
IV. GSE Host Family Volunteer Application Form
The procedure for rotary club participation in the GSE itinerary and host family selection process:
I. The rotary club notifies the GSE Coordinator that the club wishes to participate with the GSE visit and provides a proposed and detailed schedule of the program with a contact person for the activities. Deadline: November 1, 2003.
II. GSE host family applications are submitted to Richard Churchman, GSE Chairman. Please provide a copy to your GSE Area Coordinator. Deadline: December 1, 2003.
III. The Rotary Club and host family applicants will be notified of the final GSE schedule and host family selection. Deadline: January 2, 2004.
IV. GSE Area Coordinators submit the final GSE itinerary to GSE Chairperson. Deadline: January 15, 2004.
V. GSE itinerary handbook is published and mailed to District 1950 so that the German team has their itinerary at least one month before departure. Deadline: February 2004.
Rotary International Requirements:
I. Only 3 Rotary Club presentations are allowed per week.
II. Only 4-7 host families are allowed within the month for each team member
III. Arrange a vocational study day each week per team member. Please avoid duplication.
IV. Arrange at least a half-day free time per week for each team member.
Please mail all applications to Richard Churchman, 150 West Prien Lake Road, Lake Charles, LA 70601-8578. If you have questions or need additional information you may contact me at 337-478-1700 (Bus), 337-477-4550 (res.), or by e-mail at ToothXprt@aol.com.
Thanks for your assistance in getting qualified applicants to make our GSE team a success in this Rotary year.
In Rotary,
Richard Churchman
GSE Chairman, District 6200
