| Rotary Friendship Exchange |
Want to travel and meet fellow Rotarians from other countries?
Join Friendship Exchange.
Our District will exchange visits with District 5080, which includes Spokane, Washington and the Eastern part of British Columbia. Their six couple team will be here over a nine day period beginning April 20, 2007. They first visit Baton Rouge, and from there the go to Lafayette to catch the International Festival. Four nights are spent in each area. Host families are needed, as are day hosts, and drivers.
The D6200 team arrives in Spokane on May 18 and stays for 10 days. The highlight of their trip will be the Canadian Rockies. The outbound team has one opening which is available to Baton Rouge area Rotarians who host the inbound team.
Our program for D5080 will begin with an overnight stay in New Orleans on arrival. It will include sightseeing in downtown Baton Rouge and surrounding areas, and visit to the LSU campus. Baton Rouge evening events will include a live performance, if available, and a pot luck dinner. The group will attend the Wednesday noontime meeting of Baton Rouge Rotary.
Lafayette will feature a welcome party and dance sponsored by Opelousas Sunrise on Wednesday, April 25. Other evening events will be at the International Festival. Daytime activities will include a swamp tour, and a visit to Fred’s in Mamou.
Friendship Exchange is relatively new in our District. Our only previous exchange brought District 1100 from the Southwest of England. Five D6200 couples made the trip to Bristol, Malvern, and Pershore England in June 2003, lead by DG Lance Linscombe. See this site for the welcome letter.
Friendship Exchange is a great fellowship program and promotes cultural understanding and world peace. While we will have our second exchange, D5080 has completed over 16 exchanges since 2001. If you are interested in international travel, the Exchange program provides a way for you and your spouse to see a foreign locale from the inside. More information is available on the RI web site, http://www.rotary.org/programs/rfe/index.html.
